How to install newdoc:

 - Drag the application newdoc.app to the Finder toolbar
 - Create the template folder ~/Documents/newdoc/
 - Populate this folder with template files

In my newdoc folder I have the following files (give them a descriptive name):

 - Text.txt
 - RTF.rtf
 - Pages.pages
 - Keynote.key
 - Numbers.numbers
 - Word.docx
 - Excel.xlsx
 - PowerPoint.pptx

You can of course also add more specific templates (e.g. private letter in Pages).

How to use:

 - Press the newdoc.app icon in the Finder toolbar
 - Select type of document to create (list of content of template folder)
 - Choose file name an location of new file
 - Save
